Picture Story Book - Feelings in my suitcase

About
A tender picture story book about carrying our feelings that can sometimes be overwhelming. With help we can unpack them carefully and even carry them alongside us while we play.
This special resource can be used to open powerful conversations to promote emotional growth for adults and children aged 4-12 years.

Why was this story created?
Sometimes it is tempting to hurry our children toward happiness all the time …
“You’ll be ok.”“Cheer up.”“It’s not that bad“"Let’s do this to take your mind off it.”
This can lead to children thinking they must hide emotions, leading to bottling them up or outbursts. Acknowledging feelings and creating a space and time to chat about them can be a healthy way of building emotional wellness. Validation of feelings comes before a shift or change. Sometimes emotions can transform by simply shining a light on them. Children can balance expressing emotions with carefully pack them aside and get on with play and daily life.
This story offers a gentle way to introduce meaningful conversations between adults and children, aged 4-12yrs, about emotional management. It includes an information sheet with prompt questions that encourage dialogue using the picture book illustrations.
“The sweetness and wisdom of this book creates a powerful offering, much needed and refreshing to all of us who struggle with the navigation of pain. For both parents and those of us working with children, it serves as a beautiful resource in assuring that we can walk safely and loved, with all that we carry as we sort out our own unique suitcase. This book will travel far and wide, deep into the hearts of many.”
